"Once I knew that this was my reality,I decided to be proactive and to minimize the risk as much I could." Bylate April 2013, Jolie added, she had completed several months of medicalprocedures, including a double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery, at thePink Lotus Breast Center in California.
Pitt and Jolie became engaged in 2012. Slipping under thepaparazzi radar, they quietly tied the knot in a private ceremony surrounded bytheir family and friends on August 23, 2014 in France.
On March 24, 2015, Jolie wrote in another article in the NewYork Times thatshe had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed the previous week to furtherlower her risk for cancer. “I did not do this solely because I carry the BRCA1gene mutation, and I want other women to hear this,” Jolie wrote. “A positiveBRCA test does not mean a leap to surgery. I have spoken to many doctors,surgeons and naturopaths. There are other options. Some women take birthcontrol pills or rely on alternative medicines combined with frequent checks.There is more than one way to deal with any health issue. The most importantthing is to learn about the options and choose what is right for youpersonally.”
The actress said she went public with her decision to help"other women at risk to know about the options."
In September 2016 Jolie reportedly filed for divorce from Pittand has requested sole physical custody of their six children.
